VONDEE GETS NDC’S BACKING

Moses Kofi Vondee was on Sunday elected to contest the Alajo Electoral Area on the shoulders of the National Democratic Congress.

Contrary to Chapter Twenty article 248 clause 2 of Constitution of the Republic of Ghana1992, which states that; a political party shall not endorse, sponsor, offer a platform to or in any way campaign for or against a candidate seeking election to a District Assembly or any lower local government unit, a section of the Ayawaso Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress on Sunday supervised assembly member primaries that elected Moses Kofi Vondee as the party’s candidate.

The primaries which was held clandestinely at the North Alajo residence of former Ambassador and Director of Police Hospital, Dr. Seth Koranteng was attended by a section of the Constituency Executives including the 2012 failed parliamentary candidate of the party, William Affum Aniagyei.

The other two contestants; Sualah Yazid Zougrama and Michael Mawuenya Agornuga a.k.a Aboloo were both forced to step down for Moses to run as the party’s preferred candidate or face extinction from the party.

The duo, who are ballot number 2 and 4 respectively, in other of filling have since back down on their campaign models, however their posters and banners are still hanging in the electoral area.

POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS ROLL OUT A CORPORATION

The Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) has over the weekend cut a sod for

the commencing of operation of a limited liability corporation dubbed ‘Poly Fashion Concept

Ltd’ in Abuakwa, a suburb in Kumasi.

Speaking to the Central Committee Members of the Union after the sod cutting ceremony, the

coordinating secretary, Amponsah Manu said ‘the project is aimed at providing employment for

its members and that it is the union’s contribution to solving graduate unemployment that has

bewitched the Polytechnic Graduate.

He said the company which has an employment capacity of two hundred and fifty (250) for a

start is intended to put the skills and creativity of members to use and thereby generating income

to support the Union’s budget.

Amponsah called on all Polytechnic products to rise in support of the progress of the corporation.

He used the occasion to admonish his colleagues not to forget to always think outside the box in

dealing with difficult situations as technocrats. ‘ We us technocrats must lead and ensure that the

crusade against the perception among graduates that provision of jobs remains government’s sole

responsibility is minimized.

The Coordinating Secretary on behalf of the Union and the entire Polytechnic fraternity called on

government particularly Ministry of Trade and Industry to support to protect and grow the

company to augment government’s effort of creating employment in the country. He said

‘business moguls are not left out’ and that all hands must be on deck for the smooth running of

the corporation for life.

The over Fifty Thousand Ghana cedis project is made up of Embroidery, Industrial Sewing and

Knitting Machines to undertake sewing contracts of all kinds. In addition, the facility will render

screen printing contracts for corporate, individuals and government agencies. He said as

professionals, their interest is rested in the quality of work and services that would be rendered.

Manu, charged the Students Representative Councils of the ten Polytechnics to desist from

taking their fashion and printing contracts outside, and that the facility is more than capable of

delivering on time regardless of quantity without sacrificing excellence and standards.
